Here’s what happened with DYDC instructor Carla Fazio:
We returned from our break refreshed and ready to dance. On Monday, Ms. Fazio introduced us to the movements of over, under, around, and through. After our warmup, we discussed ways to move over, under, around, and through when looking at bridges, tunnels, and statues. We got to work with a partner to create a duet that used the movements of over, under, around, and through. We switched between being a mover and being a statue, bridge, or tunnel.
On Wednesday, we started class with our warmup as usual and we got to play our travel/freeze game. Ms. Fazio told us to practice not only walking, running, skipping, and galloping while we traveled but we also practiced slithering, sliding, and rolling. When we finished, we went back to over, under, around, and through. We spent the rest of class time building dances that used these four movements. We got to chose who moved and who stayed as a statue. We had to remember our dances because we shared them out at the end of class. Ms. Fazio chose different songs for each of our dances. We finished class by sharing what we learned from building dances. These included dancing to different songs, having to remember our dances, and watching all the different ways to go over, under, around, and through. Next week, Ms. Fazio told us we would be working on a weather dance. We finished off the week with our group flower.
