Delighted to be moving on to colour this week. Some time working with papier-mâché can be really time consuming.
I collected some issues to highlight the symbolic qualities of colour, and broke these into 5 categories. We talked about colour symbolism in:
Everyday life – traffic lights, road signs, flags, school uniforms
Nature – red berries, blue water, green grass, black skies during a storm
Art – Van Gogh and yellow, Picasso and his blue period, Kandinsky and his interest in the effects of colour and Giotto with his very precious
Language – Caught red handed, Tickled pink, Green fingers …
And Emotions – I feel blue…
After that the class got on with choosing their own colours in relation to the meanings of their masks. Really really happy with the work.
Next week we will bring in a variety of material and accessories to finish of our masks and talk about photographing them, making sets and any other details to finish off the project.
