Sessions 9 and 10 Rathmichael NS with writer Nell Regan

Today we plan to work together for the full day, which is really exciting and gives us a chance to do lots of work AND take a trip down to Shanganagh beach to collect sounds, scents and sensations of the sea and the beach. It was dry on Monday and will be dry on Wednesday but today?… Tuesday?…the rain is pouring down! Still, we prepare as if we will go down (make notebooks, brainstorm ideas and talk about what we will do) and keep our fingers crossed for a break in the rain while we work away on some story starters. We looked at some of these film clips last week and everyone was very excited about them and wrote some terrific stuff..

Much to our delight, the rain cleared after break and we got ready to set off down to Shanganagh beach.

On the way we stopped to collect sights and sounds from a little forest area by the Dart.

Then, down at the beach we spent time looking and writing and thinking…

As we walked back up to school for lunch, our senses and vocabularies were alert but our tummies were rumbling! After lunch we read out what we had written and worked hard to create a collage with our descriptions and questions.

We had planned to make, rehearse and record our own Sound Collector poems but time ran out and we will do that on Monday so watch this space!
