Today, was a real “red letter” day:  The Children gave a performance at St. Paul’s Church Glenegeary as part of the Parish’s  Lunchtime Concert Series.  With less than an hour to rehearse each section in the new setting of the carpeted church,  we set about placing  5 different sections of dance, to share what the children have learned during the course of our work together.  And then they gave their first performance!  The atmosphere was really charged as the soundscape from the Corridors or Passages section  filled  the church; the students changed places creating a moving passageway, bringing the corridor forward toward the audience, and signifying their passage from primary to secondary school. Manus, Ava, Tanno read 3 poems about TREES (see Blog below).  The girls performed the Slow, Fragile Tree Section, the boys performed the Cutting trees Section and together they performed the “crab” section to evocative music which filled the church.  Finally they presented Singing in the Rain – we could really see their joy in dancing this (with umbrellas). So much so, they were asked to perform it a second time by Derek Verso, the Lunchtime Concert Host.  The applause was mighty! The satisfaction great.  Graduation day will be wonderful. And there is a surprise in store for them…
