Creative Practitioners/ Teachers Meeting at Blackrock Education Centre, November 2014

Creative Practitioners and Primary Teachers met at Blackrock Education Centre for the first session of DLR Primary Arts for 2014/2015. The session was facilitated by Máire Davey, Assistant Arts Officer and Claire Halpin, Visual Artist. This was a general introduction and information session about the DLR Primary Arts Programme as there are new schools on the programme this year. We began with introductions from all the participants – previous projects that the Creative Practitioners have been involved in and the Primary Schools previous experience of a Creative Practitioner in their school. Claire gave short presentation on DLR Creativity in the Classroom as a artist in schools programme in Primary Schools in the county since 2010. The Arts in Education Charter was highlighted as an important development at departmental level between the Department of Education and Skills and the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

As the emphasis with these programmes is on partnership we broke into pairs (Teacher/ Artist) and explored basic construction materials – art straws and card working together to build constructions between the two card bases as 3D spatial drawings. Here are some of the creative solutions!
